Carmen started getting into the skills that Tom Brown Jr. taught when she was fourteen and took classes from Tom throughout her high school and college years, during which she earned her degree in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic and did an internship with Maine Fish and Wildlife tracking lynx in northern Maine. She went on to do the Caretaker program at the Tracker School for 2 years and was hired as an instructor in 2009. She lived with her husband, Matt, in the Pine Barrens in a primitive shelter that they built for 5 years, practicing the skills of survival, tracking, and awareness. Now homesteading and raising two children with her husband in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, she continues to teach these skills at the school that she and Matt started in 2012, Caribbean Earth Skills, and also travels to teach at The Tracker School. "I have given my life to learning, practicing, and teaching the skills that Tom passed down to us from Stalking Wolf, and it brings me much joy to do so. It was such a blessing to have Tom as a teacher and the blessings keep coming as I get to see people continue to learn at the Tracker School and be a part of the life-changing experiences that have always happened there."
